Traditions Specific to Seasonal Ceremonies in Uzbekistan (on the example of Kashkadarya region)

Abstract

The Kashkadarya region is one of the distinct territories characterized by the ancient cultural layers of the Uzbek people, their traditional lifestyle, agricultural and pastoral economic customs, and the convergence of sub-mountainous and oasis cultures. Since ancient times, the Kashkadarya oasis has fostered a unique ethnographic environment through historical and cultural hubs such as Karshi, Shahrisabz, Kitob, Yakkabog, Chiroqchi, Guzar, Dehqonobod, and Kamashi. Rituals associated with the changing of seasons, the arrival of spring, planting crops, driving livestock to pastures, harvesting, and winter household preparations have carried immense significance in the lives of the local population. Seasonal rituals are not merely forms of celebration or leisure in the life of the people; rather, they are viewed as a cultural system that reflects society’s worldview regarding nature, labor, faith, family, and community.
