Abstract

Applying Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) principles to online education is critical for bridging the gap between traditional and digital learning, with research showing it can increase student engagement by up to 45%. By focusing on user-centered design, educators can reduce cognitive load and create more accessible, interactive, and effective learning environments.

User-Centered Design (UCD): Designing interfaces based on student needs, preferences, and behaviors to increase engagement.

Reduced Cognitive Load: Limiting unnecessary information and streamlining content layout to prevent mental overload and improve comprehension.

Interaction Quality: Fostering engagement through active learning tools, such as gamification, to make learning more enjoyable.

Accessibility and Usability: Ensuring that learning management systems (LMS) and platforms are easy to navigate for all users, regardless of technical ability.
