Abstract

Drug discovery and development is a complex, time-intensive, and costly process, with traditional approaches often requiring over a decade and billions of dollars to bring a new drug to market. Despite significant advancements in biotechnology and pharmacology, high attrition rates in clinical trials and limitations in predictive accuracy remain persistent challenges. Artificial Intelligence (AI) has emerged as a transformative tool to address these barriers by enabling rapid molecular screening, accurate drug-target interaction predictions, and the design of novel therapeutic compounds.

This research explores the role of AI in accelerating drug discovery and development by integrating advanced machine learning and deep learning models into the pharmaceutical pipeline. A comprehensive analysis of 1000 drug-related samples, including molecular structures, clinical data, and ADMET profiles, is examined using multiple AI frameworks such as neural networks, graph-based models, and reinforcement learning. The methodology includes comprehensive data preprocessing, feature extraction, model training, and validation against benchmark datasets to ensure robustness.

Findings highlight that AI-driven approaches significantly enhance predictive accuracy for drug-target interactions, optimize lead identification, and reduce the time required for preclinical testing. Comparative analysis with conventional methods reveals that AI not only reduces false discovery rates but also aids in drug repurposing and precision medicine applications. Case studies on real-world applications—including COVID-19 therapeutics and oncology drugs further validate the industrial and clinical relevance of AI-powered drug development.

The study concludes that while AI holds immense promise in transforming drug discovery pipelines, challenges remain regarding data quality, interpretability of models, and regulatory acceptance. Future work should focus on integrating AI with quantum computing, high-throughput simulations, and personalized medicine frameworks. By bridging computational intelligence with biomedical science, AI can fundamentally redefine the future of pharmaceutical innovation.
