Abstract

Maternal and child health nursing is a cornerstone of public health, aimed at promoting the well-being of women and children throughout the reproductive lifecycle. It encompasses a broad spectrum of services from preconception and antenatal care to childbirth and postnatal care, with an emphasis on prevention, early intervention, and family-centered care. As maternal and child health outcomes are critical indicators of a nation’s overall health, the role of maternal and child health nurses becomes pivotal in achieving global and national health goals. This review provides a comprehensive analysis of the nurse’s role in antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care, while also exploring the evolving models of care, community-based interventions, mental health support, challenges, and opportunities for improving care delivery in diverse healthcare settings.
