Abstract

Health equity represents one of the most pressing challenges in contemporary global health systems, demanding a comprehensive understanding that transcends traditional healthcare delivery models. This research paper examines the critical distinction between equality and equity in health contexts, analyzing the social determinants of health that drive persistent disparities across populations globally. Through examination of international initiatives such as the World Health Organization's health equity frameworks and India's Ayushman Bharat program, this study demonstrates how systematic approaches to health equity can transform healthcare delivery systems. The research particularly emphasizes the expanding role of nursing professionals in advancing health equity through education, community engagement, and policy advocacy. Findings indicate that achieving health equity requires addressing structural determinants including income inequality, education access, employment conditions, and environmental factors rather than merely ensuring equal access to healthcare services (1,2,3). The study reveals that countries implementing comprehensive health equity strategies, including Universal Health Coverage programs, show significant improvements in population health outcomes, with nursing professionals serving as critical catalysts for sustainable change (4,5).
