Matrimonial Cruelty in Maharashtra, India: -- a Husband Perspective

Abstract

Marriage though sacred engagement primarily based for social validation and progeny, experiences of  Violence/cruelty are quite often regardless of caste, age, Social status yet the nature of cruelty may differ depending upon individual surrounding environment/Social environment. Matrimonial cruelty is a broad term, but often side-lined and less discussed due to its intimate nature. Furthermore, Discussions on how matrimonial cruelty is impacting the female side is more in number however in contemporary world how male side is also suffering the matrimonial cruelty is often ignored. Men due to traditional values, fear of social image and being less vocal about their matrimonial life often suffer silently. Many times head of family helps the women and legal systems including law in books, judiciary and police machinery  also are inclined towards women to find solution or justice against for the cruelty, the men who suffer cruelty from their wives and wife side of family are often left with no choice but to compromise. This paper aim to investigate cruelty against men which is reflected in current society through judicial as well as police official’s opinion.
