Abstract

From its beginnings to the current day, this study delves into the extensive history and revolutionary influence of nuclear weapons on world wars. Starting with the scientific breakthroughs that made nuclear weapons possible, we follow the evolution of atomic bombs through the Manhattan Project and the subsequent atomic bombings of Nagasaki and Hiroshima. The article traces the development of nuclear weapons technology from the first fission bombs to the most modern thermonuclear weapons and their delivery methods, including intercontinental ballistic missiles and solid-state lasers. With a focus on the theory of mutual assured destruction (MAD) and its impact on key international crises, the research explores the strategic theories that arose during the Cold War. The article also evaluates the impact of nuclear weapons on diplomacy and international relations, specifically in regards to disarmament and non-proliferation treaties. Given the devastating effects these weapons would have on people and the planet, we also take ethical and humanitarian factors into account. In order to help readers better comprehend the part nuclear weapons play in the dynamics of modern international security, this article conducts an examination into the topic and highlights the continuous efforts needed to reduce nuclear risks.
