This study presents an in-depth analysis of the pragmatic presuppositions embedded in the poem “She Walks in Beauty.” Drawing upon the theory of presupposition developed by philosopher and linguist J. L. Austin, this study aims to uncover the implied meanings and assumptions that shape a poem’s communicative dynamics. The methodology employed in this study involves a meticulous examination of the shared knowledge, assumptions, and cultural references within the poem. Through close reading and textual analysis, the researchers identified instances of pragmatic presuppositions and analyzed their effects on the poem’s overall meaning.
